Our Team

Kevin Moorhouse formed Towton in 2016 along with Charlie Smith and other key individuals who share a passion for accurate, informative and entertaining historical productions.  Kevin is a successful businessman who built up a software company from scratch to become the market leading solution in their space before being sold in Dec 2014.  Since then Kevin has been looking to apply his considerable entrepreneurial and business skills to developing a portfolio of investment interests in the film and television market which reflect this passion for history.  Kevin is also very keen to promote nascent talent in the entertainment industry as a whole hence his interest in Flint TV (please see Towton Entertainment for more details).

Charlie Smith is a Grierson Award-winning documentary-maker, who has been producing and directing documentaries for nearly twenty years. These include The Iraq War: Regime Change for BBC2; Inside the Mafia for Channel 5 and National Geographic; The Fifty Years War: Israel and the Arabs, also for BBC2; The Rise and Rise of Animal Rights for Channel 4.

With a background in history and an in-depth knowledge of twentieth-century Europe and the Middle East, his expertise has taken him around the world. He’s worked for many of the leading broadcasters across the globe, including the BBC, Channel 4, Discovery, ITN, al-Arabiya and National Geographic.

Tammy Riley-Smith is a writer/director, script editor and lecturer, with an MA in screenwriting from the London Institute.

She was a development executive at Working Title Films before moving on to write and direct three shorts plus a feature film, Delicious, which premiered at Busan in 2014.   Her short film, Ain’t Misbehavin’, won the Kodak Short Film Prize, and Lady M, starring Samantha Bond, premiered at LA Shorts Fest and is in competition in 8 international festivals in 2018.

She is a writing tutor at the National Film and Television School, senior lecturer at Buckinghamshire New University and a BCre8ive mentor.

John Paul is an experienced producer and screenwriter who has worked in film and TV across many genres. He has worked in several executive positions including Consultant Producer at Endemol Shine, MD of JGTV and UK Head of Production for Windmill Lane Productions. His credits include the feature films Hear My Song, High Hopes, Guy X and Bathory – Countess of Blood and, for TV, Once Upon a Time – A Celebration of the Life of Hans Christian Anderson and No Holds Bard, about the legendary counter culture figure, Felix Dennis. Earlier in his career, he produced The Wars of the Roses, a TV version of Michael Bogdanov’s epic series of Shakespeare’s history plays.

As well as his association with Towton, John Paul is a director of the film production company, GCB Films, which is developing a horror genre brand The Horror Lab, the first title for which, End of Term, is now in post-production.

Ashley Dorn is a graduate of the NFTS Script Development Diploma programme, a former reader and consultant for The Script Factory, and has been a regular mentor and script editor on the BFI Film Academy Screenwriting Residential programme, delivered by the Tyneside Cinema, since its inception in 2014.

Ashley is a hugely experienced scriptwriter who is devloping a treatment for the first 6 episodes of Kingmaker, as well as a script for the initial episode of what will eventually be a 24 episode series spanning all 4 of these books.

Michael Timney is an award winning cinematographer who began his career in documentary film making and has been fortunate enough to have made films all over the world which have won BAFTA, Royal Television Society and Grierson awards as well as many others. 

Credits include a diverse range from “L’Arbitre”, winner of UN Special Jury Prize depicting female referees in Democratic Republic of Congo to the massively popular US programme, “The Mentalist”. Others include the BAFTA award winning drama “Falling Apart”, “Secret History of Our Streets”, the Nobel prize film with JMG, Le Clezio and “The Kidnap Diaries”. 

Fjolla Iberhysaj is an accomplished TV researcher and NCTJ accredited journalist.  After completing a Journalism Masters Fjolla went on to work with some of the biggest TV companies including Sky and the BBC. Fjolla’s credits include the popular BBC series Full Steam Ahead and Discovery’s Supertruckers.  Fjolla was also involved in the production of David Attenborough’s Natural Curiosities, the BBC series; Who Do you Think You Are? and several live news segments. 

Fjolla has a particular interest in history, war and humanitarian issues.  She carried out her own research into the help available for families of the missing of war in Kosovo and has been instrumental in helping to develop the treatment for the Towton drama documentary, Major Farran’s Hat.

Fjolla recognises the importance of factual entertainment documentaries as a way of highlighting the challenges of society and giving a voice to those who may have previously been unheard. 

Towton works with the John Gilbert Consultancy, an independent business and commercial affairs consultancy, to manage Towton’s business affairs needs.  John also provides  commercial support and advice drawing upon his considerable media experience over many years.  John and Towton share a belief and a will to develop productive and happy relationships to create deals that work for everyone.

Aidan Hughes is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and qualified as a chartered accountant with PriceWaterhouse in the 1980s. He has held senior finance roles at Lex Service Plc and Carlton Communications Plc and was involved in the foundation of Carlton Television.. He was a FTSE 100 Finance Director, having held that position at the Sage Group Plc from 1993 to 2000. He is currently a non executive director of Dialog Semiconductors Plc and chair of the Audit Committee of Ceres Power Plc. He is also Chair of a private U.K. software business Substance and a director of a newly formed TV production company Flint TV Limited.

Zac is an accomplished technician and designer who trained as an architect before pursuing a successful career in software.  He joins the Towton team where he will be managing production logistics, related financial administration and marketing.  Zac is joining at a really exciting juncture in the evolution of Towton with all three initial books under option in advanced stages of development.
